Lane cedar chests have a style # and a serial # stamped on the bottom. The serial # tells the date of manufacture. At first the serial # was 6 digits long, then increased to 7 digits. The number is read backward. Example: the 7 digit # 2445270 shows it was mfr'd on July 25, 1944. The 7th digit (first one in line from left to right) indicates the plant # from which it came. Hope this helps. They are lovely lovely pieces.
