This is a beautiful marble bust of a woman. I'm not familiar with the era or who she is. Someone once called her RUTH. Her base is green marble and she probably weighs 20lbs. She has been in my family since I can remember; I inherited her when my mother died in 2000. If anyone can shed some light on this wonderful piece I'd be truly grateful. Thanks.
I'd say the base is not original to the piece.
It does not really need one either.
It would work well without it.
She is indeed beautiful.
Someone suggested Ruth as a name?
Nice name and a fine biblical story of a foreigner who became a faithful wife and mother, great grand mother of King David.
Perhaps it is the head covering that reminded them of Ruth.
But to me she looks Dutch, perhaps northern French. She could even be Italian.
She fits into the look of art nouveau. The gown she is wearing is light and elegant.
She has the look of a beautiful woman from the late 1800's.
There is no signature?
How tall is the figure?
You are lucky to have inherited the young woman.
