I am hoping someone can give me some insight on this pie safe. It was given to me by grandmothers sister who is now 94. The only information she had on it was that it was her late husbands great grandmothers. Recently I moved and when taking the drawer out I found the engraving on the bottom of it that is in the picture. I had never noticed it before. Has anyone ever seen this before? Any information will be more than I have now. Thanks for taking a look.

It's nice when you find unexpected things like the carving on the bottom of your drawer. Whenever I get a new piece, I look under drawers, on the back, under shelves, etc. I never found a picture like yours, but I have found dates, names, and old newspapers which were glued to shelves. This type of pie safe is common, except that you have twelve tin panels instead of six. The design punched into the tins is also common. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like it may have been painted at one time and stripped down to the wood. The nails are most likely square nails. The pulls look like thread spools, which you see from time to time on primitive pieces. I would say it was made in the 1870's-1880's. I hope this helps.
