    Hi,

    I recently got this medal, dont really know anything about it just thought it was cool. It is made out of sterling silver, has a long rifle or a muscat set on a blue background. If anyone knows anything about it please let me know.

      It is a Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB)-- awarded by the US Army for infantrymen who serve in combat. Each conflict has had slightly different requirements, but in general the soldier must be involved in active ground combat to get the award.

      This one is clutchback-- looks to be Viet Nam era or more modern.

      The CIB badge was established on Oct 27, 1943, retroactive to Dec 7, 1941. It was called the "fighter Badge" in the beginning, but was changed to Combat Infantry Badge later. The CIB and EIB badge had clutchback pins before Nam.

      I am not sure about the silver value.

      I'd think this would bring about $20.

      Clutchbacks started being used in WWII on some insignia and are still used today. Badges made of sterling silver tend to be older, although I think some are still manufactured today for those who want to pay the extra price. If I had to take a semi-educated guess, I'd guess Vietnam era

      Tom-- the CIB has never been officially called the "fighter badge". That was simply the original recommendation of the creator (GEN McNair) which was rejected.

      The badge was established as the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB).

      For all infantrymen, the CIB has very special meaning. It was one of the proudest days in my military career when I was awarded my first CIB.

      That's what this show and tell is for, we all learn something. I don't have the CIB, but did earn the EIB back in 1960 while stationed in Germany.

      Congratulations on the EIB-- it has always been hard to earn.

      I've gone through the prep for EIB, but the actual test was canceled due to a deployment (Desert Shield). I never got to test for it.
