Would love to write a nice little article on the history of this item, however, I cannot. Hoping that someone out there might have a bit more information about this lighter.

What I do know about this lighter is that I found it in a box of my Grandmother's things (we're slowly sorting through what she had stored in her basement for roughly 30 years; many of her things simply moved from one basement to another, to another, until finally ending up in my Mom's attic 2 years ago). I know that it's a lighter. I know that the flint of the lighter still works. I know that it was made in Japan, as it says Japan across the bottom of it. I know that the paint it worn and scratched off in places, and on the bottom of the stand it's peeling up in slightly larger sections.

What I don't know is what year this could possibly have come from? I did search the internet and practically went cross eyed, but came up empty. Not sure if the globe part could have been painted to look like a globe of the Earth, or if it was just plain silver. There is still a wick in it, no fluid (fortunately). There's also a green/blue patina on the base of the lighter.

Not sure if this is pre-WWII or post. If anyone out there knows and could please tell me what kind of lighter this is and possibly what year it could be from that would be great. Thank you.

the lighter is a mid 1930's japanese copy of a 1929 janvier quercia [french] automatic table lighter. this style mechanism was copied by both american and japanese makers and are quite common.
