dclangley

This clock has been in my family for as long as I can remember. It has the original label on the back OWL Wm. L. Gilbert. My father said it was his grandmother's. It is simple but elegant in natural wood and never refinished. I am interested in knowing how old this piece is.
I'd say 1880s or there abouts... Nice clock! Does it run?
So interesting to see some more of these clocks,my husband has the same one,all the parts inside is real gold and also have the original label at the back, stil in great condition and runs prfectly.its glass window in the front is engraved with gold curtain. How much do you think its worth today? Or how old ?
My Gilbert with the OWL on the original sticker looks just like dclangley's except the chime spring is off center to the right and it has an alarm bell in the loower left corner. The glass on mine has decrative scrool work on the glass in a silvery white paint.
Tom Grimshaw(curator of the American clock and watch museum) answered my querry about the OWL sticker by telling me there is no mystery about the sticker. He said Gilbert used iton a kitchen shelf clock named the owl. He said Gilbert used many different birds and animals on a series of their clocks. That may be wll and good but I have trouble seeing our particular clocks on a shelf in the kitchen.
