Stacey,
Sometimes, this machine is labeled as a Montgomery Ward, but mine is a Compac like yours. Does yours stitch? I'd so appreciate it if you would private message me, or swap email addresses with me! Mine is missing something in the bobbin area, and I have nothing with which to compare. I have a manual I purchased online for it. I'd be happy to send you a copy.
Your machine looks very much like the one I found. Mine has the name Viking on the front and was made by National sewing machine Co. in Belvedere, Illinois.
the model # is n-50 and the #underneath is 41945. It weighs 17 lbs and is all metal -Aluminun I think. I looked up the company and they made different machines it seems. the info said they made it's own aluminum portible in 1939 in order to compete with the Singer Featherwieght. but wasn't successful in the competition. Mine sews quite nicely. the company closed in 1957.
