I recently purchased this item at an auction, wondering? Has anyone seen a similar item? It appears to be a table or wall kerosene lamp. The vessel has both legs for setting on a table and a hook for mounting on a wall. The shade is milk glass so I'm guessing early 20th century because of its condition as well. There is some engraving on the back of the piece with what looks like Silvertowne NY in addition to Patent applied for? There is no wick with the piece. Thanks
I believe that your lamp was used to light cigars
It's a night light. Search "little beauty" on ebay for similar examples.
i agree with akp -- i can't see this beauty lighting cigars in any way shape or form -- can you tell by the smell of the residue what it might have been -- kerosene -- mineral spirits etc -- do you have a local college near you -- many times they have equipment available to identify the chemicals and the college grads are always looking for a good challenge -- of course to my knowledge -- to date we still can not exceed the nose of the canine species -- just a thought as using your local resources
