Well the mystery on this is it a reproduction? The plate gives me pause but the quality of construction makes me think it's real. Hand blown glass chimney and Sherwood's lampplus all solid brass construction except for the few solder points. It's made like a real 1943 ships lantern but were they even making civilian lanterns during WW2? It's just the name and name plate that gives me pause that just feels wrong to.me. but I'm not a lantern guy so I'm asking y'all.
I have a solid brass with wood handle one that holds a candle and has clear glass in front, no door ,red and blue glass on either side with spring loaded doors to cover . The top of it is similar to this one but it has some kind of insulation lining it.I cant find any markings on it maybe you could help.
I think yours lantern may be real. I have two lanterns exactly like yours that I bought at an auction some time ago. The only difference are mine are dated 1956. Since they are marked "Made in Great Britan" they were probably for export. Because of the quality I believe they were made to be used.
Yeah it was real. I'm a flea market dealer and i got a guy who only deals in lanterns to look at it.
