Published in 1881 by D. Lothrop& Co. this book is a collection of children's stories, possibly used as a school primer as the text is 1st or 2nd grade readability. Authors listed as M.M.H. and E.N.H. Includes lovely children's illustrations in ink in each of the 14 or so short stories. Being a retired school teacher, I've collected children's books for years, and am really not sure where or how I got it. It's in good condition , no torn pages, though lots of smudges as though the stories were read repeatedly by young children. Binding is intact, but frayed. Cover is in color, and back appears to be an advertisement for another book titled "How Two Girls Tried Farming" by Ella Farman. Would love to learn something of the history of this oldest member of my book collection.
All I could find:
Author's last name is Hathaway -- (MEN and MM Hathaway) -- according to: http://books.google.com/books?id=JBQYAQAAIAAJ&pg=PA273&lpg=PA273&dq=%22Kitty's+Flower+Garden%22+book&source=bl&ots=nOUInLeI4Y&sig=rmAEbpxNFaRyTsPep7Gv72lrdgc&hl=en&ei=L3GOTKzeC8OBlAf12PTIAg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBIQ6AEwAA
This particular title is not currently available on Abe.com. However a review of books published by Lothrop in the years 1870's and 1880's will give you a ball park figure. Condition looks to be poor to good.
