Very unique steamer trunk or luggage. It was owned by a John R Edmondson of 1254 Waverly Place in Elizabeth, New Jersey. From what I see on the trunk he traveled from France to Southampton, New York on a boat. He traveled the on SS Ile De France sometime between the 1920s to 1950s. If he stayed everywhere he had a sticker for he was well traveled; Rome, Athens, Florence, Venezia, Messina, Sevilla, Palermo, Cairo, Antibes, Torino, Paris, Barcelona, Bahamas, New York. Such a story comes from the stickers on the trunk! The binding on the trunk is from the national vulcanized fibre co.

    Time period of this trunk?

Ok.... where is the luggage / trunks category, sometimes it's so hard to find the right category....

Awesome find! Great window into the travel history of Mr. Edmonson. If you're really interested, you can easily find when he traveled to Europe by going on Ancestry.com (or a similar site) and looking up the ship's manifests to find out his dates of travel.

I used to do so much research on that site but my time is up on there. I'd love to knwo what kind of man he was. Interesting enough, he lived right in the area that my grandparents grew up. Same time also. The ship they took was only used from the 1920s to the 1950s though. What a great piece to have if John R Edmondson was your grandpa, huh!

I just did a quick search on Ancestry and didn't come up with anything. By the way, it's more likely that the ship was traveling to Southampton ENGLAND, not New York. But I don't have the international version of Ancestry, so can't access the European travel.

Thanks for the help! The sticker says Southampton, New York.
