Does anyone know what this is??? I thought it was a bottle opener due to the shape of the beak. Is this from a specific era? I think its a great item to have, but would like to know what it is. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

It is most definitely a bottle opener. The 2011 kovels price guide says that "parrot on a perch" bottle opener is worth about $50, could be the same one. I love the cast iron bottle openers, this one is in great shape.

Yes it is a bottle opener. Originally made in Wrightsville, PA the John Wright co. competed against Wilton for they where the only foundries around. Yours seems to be made by John Wright around the 1950's, it's solid cast with airbrush, then hand detailed. A small work of art if you ask me. I personally think it's worth about $65. Great piece!!
