Cabinet card of young group with great tinting

This 1880s Cabinet card shows that less can be more when it comes to tinting.

Many 19th century tinted photographs show excessive and poorly applied tinting.

In this example the photographer (artist) chose to only tint the flowers. I think the contrasting shades of black and white really make the minimal tinting pop.

Unfortunately, the photographer chose not to mark his products, so his name has been lost.

I have several 1870s CDVs that were tinted in a similar manner, by a Michigan photographer and I will post his work on this site.
