I bought this vase late last year here at a market in Surry Hills Sydney, Australia.
It still retains the Beranek label .
    It is vase 8829 - manufactured in three sizes - 8829/24, 8829/20 and 8829/15.
    The designer is Jaroslav Wasserbauer.
This is one of the larger versions. It is 24 cm high, 8 cm wide.
It is another of the controlled bubble vases that I like.

      Wow ! What a whopper !
The gray canes internal decor is quite mesmerizing.
Just a note: Use of the Skrdlovice name implies communist era production. This is post re-privatization ...about 1993 onwards. Peter

Many thanks to scandinavian_pieces, ozmarty and Glasseyed for the Loves.

Thanks too for your comments vetrissimo!

The vase however is a design from 1988.
The number 8829 is a combo of year and height.
      This makes it pre re-privatisation.
I had no idea that the term Skrdlovice implied the communist period.
I'm off to do some research on the point and would welcome any of your thoughts about it.

My comment was about the date of production, not of design.
Production prior to re-privatization (return of ownership to the Beranek family) would have borne a Skrdlovice or generic Bohemia label.
The measurements are the two digits after the production number and slash as you illustrated with examples.
I didn't know that the first two digits of the production number related to the year of design. Are you sure about that ?
      Pete

      Hi vetrissimo.
I've had a look again at the design number.
My vase is 8829/24; the 24 is the height.
I was wrong about the 8829. The 88 is the year and the 29 is the 29th design I think.
I had seen a photo in one of the Beranek catalogues.

I contacted Jindrich and he gave me the necessary information:
      vase 8829 - manufactured in three sizes - 8829/24, 8829/20 and 8829/15, Jaroslav Wasserbauer.
And then, having contacted Glass Messages Board Rocco & Anik put me onto the catalogues:
My vase is on page 12 of 44 pages at : http://www.vcm.cz/program/exhibitions/glass/pdf/88_91.pdf

In the left hand column there are numbers at the top:8829/24, DNO 8Ø
      Which I read as vase 8829 - 1988 number 29 , 24 cm high, 8 cm wide.

And at the left at the bottom are: 880189.
The medium vase has the number: 880190 and the smallest 880191
I asked the folks at GMB what is the significance of this number?
      They did not know.
Perhaps you might be able to help?
If you can, have a look at the catalogue page and you'll see that the designs are there on page 12.
The file covers the years 1988 to 1991.

It would appear that at this factory at this time the first two digits of the production number do indeed relate to the year.

The numbers below seem to be merely index numbers. It's my understanding that production numbers and designers names were traditionally kept in a card index. This would appear to be still the case at this time.

Isn't it extraordinary that as late as 1992 (and even later ?) a person was employed to draw the designs onto mock-up catalogues like this ?

During the communist era the relatively small Skrdlovice factory was used as a testing facility for new designs prior to going into full scale production, usually at a different factory. You would have thought that it would have been easier and quicker just to photograph a test piece !!

Perhaps not all designs were made even as test pieces ?
As usual ....more questions than answers ! Sorry
      Pete

What I find extraordinary is that the mock-up designs are there for us from the early days too, from 1945 onwards.
      It's an amazing resource.
      Check out the 1945 - 1948 here:
      http://www.vcm.cz/program/exhibitions/glass/pdf/45_49.pdf
Emanuel Beranek has his mark on some of these annotated designs as well.

your very welcome Kevin:) can you tell me what year yours is from?
    18. vetraio50 vetraio50, 11 years ago
Hi Sean. This one is after 1991 too. I think you will find it in that catalogue which contains your new Beranek. This design dates to 1988. It was made for a few years.
    19. SEAN68 SEAN68, 11 years ago
wow!! I really like yours a lot , and the bubble with the lines are great! and shape is very beautiful! these do feel really smooth as well:)
    20. vetraio50 vetraio50, 11 years ago
Smooth and weighs half a ton! I have theory about the placement of the stickers too! They are meant to be seen at the right of centre. Put it at the front centre and twist to the right. It works on all the Skrdlovice pieces I have.
    21. SEAN68 SEAN68, 11 years ago
Yes these are very heavy is right:) I did not know that about the sticker of how they placed that. why is that.
    22. vetraio50 vetraio50, 11 years ago
      Many thanks to HO2CULTCHA!

As the why, Sean, I think it was done intentionally in the factory.
I will do a post on it?

      Hi Vet,
I am really developing a taste for Skrdlovice and trying to learn. Any idea where I can gain access to the pattern books. Everything I read links to pages which are now inactive. I would really appreciate your advice. I love your Skrdlovice pieces.
      Thanks, Jude
