cast iron - no markings, no name or patent number. Purchased at an auction sale - none of the antique dealers there knew what it was. Have checked with elderly, no one remembers seeing anything like it.
About 6 inches from end to end 4 inches in diameter.
could this be an antique tire patcher.. found something similar on ebay?
It looks to me like a mold for making frogs for flower arangements. The surface looks rough. If you put glass, lead, plaster of paris, or some sort of composition in it, you would not be able to release it from the mold. It might have been for rubber. Latex mold material is available. Put it in the mold, let it cure. After it sets you can pull it out of the mold and see what you have.
we finally found the answer... it was used to repair innertubes for tires.... would they would put kerosene in the container, light it - close it - then would put the repair material and innertube between the two flat surfaces...clamp iit down - the heat would melt the two together.... found a great info page on AdamsenAncestry.com//// thanks for the thoughts
I googled AdamsenAncestry.com, and could not find the site. Help
