I found this piece at a local garage sale in Virginia. The background I found on it dates back to the 79th Infantry Division that fought in France. The Divisions patch was the Cross of Lorraine because of the battles they fought in defense of France. Feel free to talk more about this piece and yours if you'd like.

      Nice trench art.

I don't know that this was made specifically for a 79th Division member-- the "Cross of Lorraine" has symbolic importance to the French people in general and is often found in WW1 trench art.

The dates are interesting though-- the Division first arrived in France in JUL 1918, but they were sent home in MAY 1919 and deactivated by JUN.

If you have other pieces of trench art, I'd love to see them.

Also when you get a chance, take a look at my items. I have many trench art postings from WW1- present era.
