This is a Willemite and Calcite cab shown under short wave UV light.I delivered a water heater for a plumber and the home owner had a house full of minerals. After talking rocks with him for a little bit he gave me this piece as a tip for delivering the heater to his basement.
Wolcott here is one you may like.
Yes sir, that's a beauty! Is it a pendant?
Yes The natural light pics are a bit blurry...I'll have to get some better ones.
Makes me wonder if I have any of these kind of rocks hanging around that I didn't know could get all glowy :)
You never know...fluorescent rocks are found around the world.Franklin has the most diverse species list some only found here. But willemite and calcite are found elsewhere also.
I wonder if the Victorians were into these kinds of minerals. zthey were all about nature in terms of design. The UV lights were invente in the 1800's. Just a thought. You got me thinking :)
Never mind it was just a theory of a french physicist at that point. It wasn't until much later that the lights went on!
These minerals were discovered(at least here)by mistake.A piece of equipment needed to be welded in the mine and the welder put off a primitive form of short wave UV light which excited the atoms in the minerals and made them glow.
I wonder when they were discovered. Imagine the welders surprise.
Haha thanks Scandi, I do have my moments of spaciness as you witnessed ;)
