OLD WISCONSIN FARM HILLS AMATEUR OIL PAINTING

I admire old folk art and amateur oil paintings. Having attempted some painting myself I guess it’s the effort more than the actual quality that I respect the most however sometimes even a very primitive effort can have some very appealing aspects. Accidental or deliberate one can never really be sure. I guess that’s what helps make them so interesting to collect. This unsigned fairly large 24” x 33” oil painting on hardboard from the pre war era is one of my favorites. It resembles the hilly Wisconsin farm area it came from but still it may have been rendered by someone only copying a known painting . The imagery of the men in the truck is quite remarkable. I only wish the painting did not have the moisture damage losses. Still it was well worth the $1 country auction winning bid price. Without the damage I think would have put the retail value at several hundred dollars.
