    I bought these at an auction recently and have no idea what they are. They were included in a misc. lot.

    They have a brass ankle fixture and leather/cloth strap. Soles are made of wood and have lots of tiny round headed nails are driven into the them.

    Pieces have come apart - toe - heel. Toes are covered in black leather. Both piece are stamped with the number 17.

      could be boot sole protector for motorcycle racing..think they called them something like "hot boot". Going through corners the racer puts foot down onto ground and glides along the surface....
      could be what you have here????? cool piece, wanna get rid of it?

      It looks like there could have been a hinge attached to hold the two pieces together (note even spacing of holes). It would make walking much easier.

      These are motorcycle racing shoes. They are from the '30s or '40s.

      You have a pair of mid 19th century pattens worn as overshoes. Very typical.
