This knife and sheath has been in my family for at least 60 years...Blade does not fold...It does come apart and I have checked for information and there is none...Metal on handle and sheath has no rust, so it may be silver or aluminum or what?...Any ideas on maker, age, wood type?

better pictures would help,how big is it? a puuko is a very large knife of around 14 inches, the knife is clearly of the scandinavian design ,the older the knife the more cirtain you can be of the region it was made as in more recent times knife makers have made a wider range of knives ,for example i often make scandi knives but have never been onto continental europe.another thing worth bearing in mind is that the blade maywell have been made by a different person to the chap that 'dressed' the blade and or from a different country.Are there any makers marks on the blade?
Thanks Justin-Sanford...I think I have figured out the handle and sheath are made of horn rather than wood...The knife measures tip to tip 10 inches...The exposed blade is 5 inches...No marks on anything...It's old...It belonged to my grandfather and he passed away in the 1950's...His parents immigrated direct from Norway to USA around 1900...It's old...There is a gun-knife show in my area this month...I am going to bring it and show it off...Try and get more information...I saw a few that were similar on e-bay...Had no idea it was so valuable...

Possibly Scandi-wegian birch for the handle and sheath.
