This doll belonged to a friend that passed away suddenly. We do not have any information or history about the doll.

The head/shoulders appear to be porcelain and the hands and feet look like bisque. It looks like the feet were painted red and the left foot is missing. The body is soft. The clothes are stitched on and I have not tried to remove them. She is 4 1/2 inches long.

I am looking for any information. . .age, origin, etc. or where I might find out some information. Thank you!

Hi your little doll is called a Flat top China . She appears to be a dollhouse doll . Alloriginal clothes are very desirable . The little broke foot is not as major as a break or crack on head . She is from 1860-1880's by hair do. These tiny dolls are not as finely molded as the larger ones and a little more crude in appearance but were meant to be played with . Her body should be of cloth and stuffed with sawdust .The value on dolls has fallen a lot so value she would be better to keep as a sentimental memory of friend . She would likely sell for 30-50 at auction . But prices should come up again . She is wonderful and hope you preserve her by not placing in sunshine or window as her clothes are important and sun destroys the fragile fabric . Thank you for sharing your little China doll . PS China is merely glazed bisque , that is why it is shiney and called a china doll .

Thank you for the information! The doll is very sweet and her clothes, including her under garments look like they are from the 1800's. I keep her wrapped in a piece of raw silk inside a box in a dresser drawer. Is it better to not try to clean her face and hands?

You can safely clean face with a little water damp cloth and q-tip for tiny places. and her hands also . It is like washing a china dish . You won't need soap and dry off with a corner of dry cloth . Don't rub hard on eyes, eyebrows or lips . But I wash mine all the time will once a yr . She will look much nicer clean. Leave dress as is and don't handle dress , pick up doll from under her dress. And this is important . these little dolls usually just have their heads glued on old cloth and glue dries and head could fall off . So keep hand under head whenever moving her to support it so it doesn't fall on floor . If it should come off at some time by itself . You will simply Elmer glue back onto to body .
She is precious and special .
