Got another rock carving today, not my expertise being a south american stone. I know the character is a Mayan King Pacal but not familiar with the pink stone? Carving is a little over 9 inches tall and Pacal is holding an offering bowl. Heavy stone and could be an unpolished marble or rhodonite; thinking the stone colour has to do with blood-letting rituals or of blood sacrifice. Not sure, could be the pink stone helps with healing the nervous system, blood, and lymph. Does anyone have any knowledge of this stone and its meaning to the Maya culture?
Thinking I need a bigger china hutch? Nah, it will fit!
This is a very nice find, where did you find it?
Most my stone carvings come from estate sales. The lady who sold me this stone got it from another estate in Georgia. No history other then previous owner past away about ten years ago, he was a collage professor or teacher and she got it at auction. The lady did not even know it was a Maya, Pacal carving? Guessing the pink stone went with her pink furniture?
