This is a Seth Thomas mantle clock we found when cleaning out my elderly (late 80's) in-laws room. The label on the inner door says it's an 8 day keywound clock, A-401 series. The serial number engraved on the clock workings is A-460-000-6206. I would love to find out more about this clock. It winds up, (we found the key) and is still running strong.

      Hi,
You have a Seth Thomas "Woodbury" Chime Clock. The case is made of mahogany and its style is properly known as a "Tambour". The shape is also commonly known by several other descriptive names such as "Napoleon Hat", "Camel Back" and "Humpback". I'm sure there are others. This clock is circa 1962 which would make it a "Vintage" clock, not an "Antique". This clock was designed for small rooms with a height of 8", width of 17 1/2" and depth of 4 1/2". It was an expensive clock and originally sold for $59.95 (about $427 in 2010).

I have not seen this model on eBay but a very similar model called the "Medbury" has sold for a wide range of prices. Anywhere from $45 in Nov 2010 up to $213 in late August of 2011.

By the 1960's Seth Thomas was in rapid decline. The Company was no longer manufacturing movements and was contracting out the manufacture of most of its cases. This may explain why these clocks are not as highly valued as many of the older Seth Thomas Chime Clocks that were completely manufactured by the Company and used the well known movement numbers "124" and "113". At any rate, I'm sure it is a very nice sounding heirloom. Enjoy!
