I have a habit of picking up pretty plates as I come across them at thrift stores. They have to have a certain feel to them and I have to like the pattern--but that's about it. I have never really paid attention to the mark, but this one said "patent applied for", so I decided to look it up.
From what I can find, the fact that Theodore is underlined means it is from 1903. I can't find anything about the R.T. Gregg & Co. stamp which makes me wonder if this piece is real. Anyone out there familiar with that stamp?
Just heard back from the Haviland Collectors International. They confirm the pattern is Schleiger #855-C. R.T. Gregg & Co. was the retailer out of Lima, OH.
