    Found this item stuck away inside an old large book; seems to be a real thin cotton or silk with a ribbon strap, hand painted. Does anyone have a clue what this is?

      I have seen similar items painted with patriotic scenes and containing a hanky that were meant as gifts to sweethearts upon departure for WW1.

      Yours is most likely a civilian type version since it does have "forget me not" flowers on it. Made for a man to give to his sweetheart upon his departure (trip, college, etc...)

      I would think it dates from about 1915- 1930.

      Thanks; Made for a man to give to his sweetheart upon his departure. My last sweetheat wanted a new car when I left town for a couple months. Things have changed.
