Part of a family collection of vintage cameras passed on for 3 generations now.

    Germany. Rare
Lens: f/3.5, 50 mm Elmar iris diaphragm to f/18. Depth of field scale.
Shutter: Focal-plane speeded 1/20 - 1/500, B. Speeds are varied by delaying the second blind.
    Construction: Vulcanite covered metal body.
Format: 36, 24 x 36 mm exposures on 35 mm cine film held in cassette, film is re-wound into cassette.
    Focusing: Helical to 1 metre.
    Attributes: Direct-vision (lens/lens) view-finder.
Auto-stop on film-advance. Film-advance tensions shutter. Exposure counter.
    Serial Number: 31714 (1930)

This is the first Leica camera fitted with removable lenses. The earliest models were sold with their own lenses sets, because the distance between the mounting ring and the film plan was not standardized yet.; therefore, only the lenses modified for each body could fit it. These early models are very rare.

I have a question. I am in possession of a vintage Leica camera #22037. I am interested in some information about this model. I would also like to know what it is worth. It is in very good condition and it has a leather case. Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

      Lynda,
I'm certainly no expert, but I will tell you what I know. Based on the serial number, it looks as though your camera is a Leica I and was made in 1930.
As to the value, that's a tough one. I would guess around $1000, but it could be more or it could be less, because the value depends on a few things.
Leica collectors would want to know every tiny detail of your particular camera, such as mechanical details, all engravings, and exact physical condition. Only then could a potential buyer determine rarity and finally what they'd be willing to pay to own it.
If you would like to sell it, or if you are trying to come up with a value for insurance purposes, I would seek out an expert and be prepared to take photos of it.
      Hope that helps!

Similar to Lynda I have my late fathers Vintage Leica Camera serial no. 308464. Are you able to indicate from the serial number which year it was made and recommend an expert in the south of england who could value it.

I have been looking up my fathers old Leica and have encountered very confusing information: This seems to be a IIIa from the 1/1000 shutter speed and sub 1/20 knob on the front; however the SN on top is 26197 which would NOT make it a IIIa. The lens 228689 & 177859 seem to be from 1934 & 1933. Can someone help dating the camera please?
