    Good morning everybody,
I picked up this "Junk Peddlers License" at a flea market this weekend. I am wondering if this was something really issued and used, or if it is a fantasy item. It states that it expired Dec. 31, 1964. It has the mayor, Richard J. Daley's name on it, and the city clerks name John C. Marcin's name on it also. I am also trying to decide if it is solid brass or brass coated. It has some wear on it. I really liked this item because I sometimes feel like a "Junk Peddler" when I am selling at flea markets every now and then. Paid 2.00 for it, so it did not break the bank ! Definitely going to be a keeper no matter what. Thanks for looking, T.G.
Oh yeah, it measures approximately 1 1/2" wide, 2" in length.

They did have a Junk Pedddlers law ordinance in Chicago and you needed a License . :-) How fun . I know alot of people that would love your item . And the names of Mayor Daley is correct

Thanks so much for the information Manikin and for the love. When I saw it in a box of knick knacks I knew it was a keeper. I think Junk Peddling runs in my family. My grandfather always ran "Antique Stores" ( Junk?) when I was growing up and I used to hang out there with him every chance I got. I have tried to pass on my love of junk, antiques, oddities, etc. to my two daughters. Now I have started with my grandchildren ! It has been a life long love for me ! Thanks again.

Manikin, I definitely believe that there is an antique gene that can be inherited. I got it and passed it on to at least one of my daughters !

Thanks pwsest1944 for the love and the comment ! Did your Great grandfather have a peddlers badge that you know of ? It would be neat to have one that someone in your family had actually used ! Thanks for stopping by, Thrifty Gypsy

I'm not sure if they had to have them in 1900, If Chicago did God only knows what happend to it. By 1910 he was working for the Rail Road, If you wern't working for the Police or Fire Dept. you worked for the Rail Road!!.
    29. ThriftyGypsy ThriftyGypsy, 13 years ago
Thanks pwest1944 for the reply. Were you able to find anything from his police, fire dept. or railroad days ? It would be a nice keepsake to have in your family! I have a few items from my grandparents, but there are many things that I remember my grandparents having, but I have no clue as to what happened to them. Thanks for stopping by, Thrifty Gypsy.
