Murano art glass fish "with labels" that are pre 1950's and "not signed." Murano Glass was produced in great quantities in the 1950s and 1960s for export and for tourists very few artists began signing their art. Before 1950 Murano's glassmakers were the island’s most prominent citizens and everyone had knowledge of the master glassmakers styles. Today, Murano is home to a vast number of factories and many individual artist's studios making all manner of mass marketed glass objects. Anytime you have great artists you get people "without" creative talent producing copies. Until our government starts to enforce copyright laws on multi-billion dollar corporations who mass market fakes and copy's the real artists and antipinuers will never have a chance. Even small shops seem to attribute art pieces to the masters without any thought of copyright laws. This week I found Thomas Kinkade prints at a truck stop, made in china?

Thank you vetraio50, they are a nice pair but the values have dropped way down and new artists without any talent try to copy the masters works making all of murano art glass look bad. Seen some pieces of marked and signed murano (new fakes) that look like a melted candle.

      Hi Papa

You are dead right with the fakes side of things. The Chinese are insipid at producing rip offs but the style and techniques used are simply TOO clumsy to be Murano.
