    Picked up a couple art pottery items this weekend, this is a large cowboy hat marked M Waken. Not an art pottery person myself but the price was right. Anyone know this artist or style?

      Looks like a chip and dip bowl to me! Put the chips around the brim, and the dip in the recess of the hat. Other than that quick guess, I have no idea!

      Salsa and chips, it does looks like a sombrero? Right now it is a "catch all" on the coffee table. I kind of remember the spackled enamel on giant ashtrays at grandma's house. Mostly reds and oranges. Thinking there is a name for this style of art pottery but just have no clue about the stuff, not even one book on art pottery.

      Thanks stefdesign; found some on eBay as Vintage 1940's Sombrero chip & salsa dish for $40 to $50 bucks and $20 bucks shipping. Not bad for a $2.00 garage sale find.
