It is a follis of the Byzantine ruler Justinian. M = 1,000 = 1 Follis.
Struck in Nicomedia with ANNO to the left, the regnal year (year of his rule) on the right, a cross above, the officina (workshop) letter below and the mintmark, usually NIKO in the exergue (the very bottom of the reverse). The obverse has the legend DN IVSTINIANVS PP AVG and shows the helmeted and cuirassed bust of Justinian facing, holding a cross on globe and a shield on his arm.
It is a common coin, published as Sear Byz. 201; MIB 112-115
with 180 combinations / varieties known.
