Shown is the Fighting Knights playset, made by the Marx toy company in 1967. Around this time Marx started to make their playsets more travel friendly, so rather than put them in a cardboard box that would fall apart quickly, they put them in a metal carry all case with a handle. The case itself was an integral part of the playset. In this case, the case served as the castle walls when opened up.
The playset came with knights, vikings, horses, and various accessories. This set is nearly complete, considering it is 44 years old. Just about every guy growing up in the sixties had at least one type of Marx playset.

Yup. I had (have) this one and the Fort Apache (and four of Marx's large "action figures" - a knight, a Viking, a cowboy and a calvary officer)! What fun!

I remember I always needed my dad's help to snap on the castle's towers! Ha! And my mom used to complain about stepping on the catapult-ammo (ouch!)! LOL I also remember well that it seemed to take forever to "clean up" when I was done playing! I added another two dozen (much-fancier) knights, I bet. I actually had a Viking outfit I'd put on to play (horned helmet and all!) and I spent countless hours - just being a kid & loving life: somehow, getting along fine w/o video games!

Of course, because of that, my set isn't nearly as complete/original as yours (our Hoover probably got all the "ammo")! Thanks for posting and sharing this wonderful set. Mine are all packed away, so it was a real treat seeing yours. Thanks again!
