Family Heirloom - This is my Great-Grandmother's 2 KT Opal in yellow and white gold birthstone ring. It was handed down from my Mother to me her only daughter. And I will pass it on... I'm not sure when it was made and I'd like any info you may have to offer.

Gorgeous! I don't have any info though. Opal can crack if not kept moist so make sure if it is stored it is placed with a moist cotton ball. Don't put baby oil on it!

Stunning opal . Beautiful color not bland like so many you see It looks like a black opal and setting looks old like a 20's style ? I don't know I just love it !:-)

Thank you! I was not sure how to care for it. My Great Grandma was born in 1899 and the 20's would make sense - very interesting thanks again.

someone once told me that you can soak opals in water for a few hours or overnight to bring back the brilliance.

The opal itself is probably Australian. Are there any other markings?

everythign I've read said says soaking opals doesn't really do much good. you're not supposed to keep them anywhere near heat or a super dry environment but they say soaking doesn't really do anything.

Definitely art deco, Australian opal more then likely black can you take a pic with it off your finger with light going through?
