Early hand colored reward of merit. The graphics are great. One depicts George Washington, another depicts an Indian. The other graphics look very patriotic. I am looking for help with the age, maker, and value of this piece.

I think these are great but unfortunately it appears their value is nominal. Yours has great graphics that distinguishes it from the ordinary. If "Betsy [can't read the name] was someone famous, I would think that would add a little value. You might want to do a quick search of their name.

Here are the current listings on ebay:

That is a really neat engraving.

Style is similar to Patriotic covers of the Civil War era and I would suspect that this is from about 1860- 1880.

Value is minimal but in no way detracts from its universal appeal as a Patriotic/ Americana collectible.

I got this in a box lot with other paper for $15. Do you think I did ok?
    10. scottvez scottvez, 13 years ago
It depends on what else was in the box.

These routinely sell in the $4- $10 range.

Thanks Scottvez. I got some Civil War era checks, postcards, and other weird paper items.

I just found out that the teacher who is mention on this died in 1861.
    13. scottvez scottvez, 13 years ago
War era paper is desirable. It all depends on content. A military related item will have universal appeal with Civil War collectors. A civilian item (such as a check) will have appeal depending on location.

"Weird" items will always have a market! Folks are always interested in the unusual.

You probably did fine with the auction.

Thanks Scottvez. I also bought a ca. 1932 Circus scrapbook the belonged to one of the first members of the Circus Fan Association. I paid $20 for that but there is 99 pages of Circus related paper.

      Post your circus scrapbook.

Original advertisements and photographs are very desirable.
