Pittsburgh, Cincinnati & St. Louis brass top, bell bottom railroad lantern made by the George M. Clark Mfg. Co., in Chicago, in the late 1880's. This no. 39 Geo Clark is a classic piece, complete with brass heater tube in the oil fount and original wick pick. The lantern is prominently marked P.C. & ST. L. R. R. on the lid reflector. The clear, extended base globe is embossed PC&STLRY in very nice tall, thin letters, sans serifs. Clark lanterns bear a striking resemblance to similar Adams & Westlake models, the major difference being the unique, looped bail attachment to the frame vertical guard wires. The PC&StL was a key, early constituent of what was known as the "Panhandle", a major part of the late day Pennsylvania Railroad system, Lines West of Pittsburgh.
