    I began collecting pottery in the early 1980's. I came across this functional bird whistle at an Antiques show in Baltimore MD, they said it was found in the Shenandoah area of VA, the large stoneware bird was purchased from Marlin Denlinger around 1982 (Binghampton NY) and the other two stoneware pieces crock and 1 gallon jug are from Bennington VT.

      I would like to see "Stoneware/Redware" have its own category under Pottery as Crocks and Jugs typically are not considered China and Dinnerware. When these pieces are hand-thrown on a wheel with spectacular folk art decorations, they would best be described as Folk Art Pottery
