I've had this ring in my collection for a number of years. Was told it was old possibly the 1400's?? There's no hallmarks but it is gold and the stone is a garnet. The ring is a size 9. As you can see from the pics its not perfectly round. Going around the ring are tiny "bead" decorations which I am amazed are not worn with age. Wish I knew more about this ring. Any comments or advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Beautiful! If it is that old, it is in excellent condition! Maybe start with looking into the biggest empires during the 1400's, then check out some old paintings/pictures from the time/place you suspect it to be from, and try to find similar design motifs to match to the ring. If you could check what alloy was used with the gold (if any, looks like could be 22/24k?) and match to popular metals in same time period you might be able to confirm its age.

Thanks so much! that is a great idea to search old paintings from around that time period. I had a person who is an expert on old jewelry take a look at it and she feels that it is from the 1400's. It is in excellent condition, amazing that all the little "gold beading" around the ring is still intact and that it was so cared for and obviously loved through the centuries. thank you again for your comment and suggestion.
