These Plates are off a MANUALLY operated overhead crane made by the Alfred Box Co. The crane was built into the building in the late 1880's. The building was originally a brick manufacturer or a trolley repair shop, there was a couple of each in that area. Now it is a paper mill. The crane was not electric powered in any way, all funtions were by hand cranks. Alfred Box didn't make an electric crane or hoist until 1921, then his company merged with two others to become Shaw-Box which is still in business today. I rubbed soapstone on the one for clarity. They are pretty beefy cast steel 9" x 38" x 1/2".

Good thing your guys have some "pipes" ,those things must weigh a ton! Are ya painting them? or putting up as-is ,-either way they'd look cool!

I like these Tommy! Rustic is always better than redone IMO.
I would hang these just as they are, right under that Coke mirror behind your boys.
Either side by side or under each other. Great finds!

Thanks Bernie and Perry, they go about 40 pounds each. I thought about leaving one plain and one in silver on the letters and edge with gloss black centers. I found one other sign from this company done like that.

Nice Signs. Shaw Box has some promotional posters that feature the Manual Cranes with these signs.
