Picked this up at a yard sale this last summer for a quarter or two. We were told it had something to do with fishing, but neither myself nor my father had seen anything like it.

The green part is a heavy weight, probably two or two and a half pounds, and the gray metal attached almost looked like a rod holder at first glance. We couldn't decide. Is it a rod holder? A measure for water depth?

Any assistance would be appreciated. We're pretty sure it's valueless, but we would love to solve a mystery!

i think it could be for ataching to the main line and alowed to slide to the hook to dislodge a stuck lure or hook.

Don't have any idea what it is, but it is interesting and unusual. Good luck!

      Looks like a small 'zip-line' but I wouldn't know what for ?

I think it is used to repair fishing nets .

Nancy what you mean is a netting needle and i havent seen one like that, the weight would make netting hard work, however an intresting idea.

I beleave this is for retrieving snaged lures. You slid this down you line and it hooks to your lure, you then put up on the rope and you free the lure.
I sold one years ago, it was called a Waterdog.

All righty! We gave it a try, and the thing is pretty slick. I'm definitely keeping this in my tackle box. Thanks russsoppe for reminding me to close this case.
