A perfect specimen of the Baker folded, twisted, tack rail. Patent #256,535, April 1882 by George C. Baker of Des Moines, Iowa. This is a very light wire, the metal is very thin and easily damaged. There are 14 tacks, all 1 1/4" apart. A very unique patent.
Great wire. Some folks would say it is tacky.
Nice wire! I found my piece (2) in Bowie, TX still nailed to a cedar post. They had a brush fire and it exposed the posts and three different wires, and two patented metal fence posts I didn't have. There's wire still out there, the fun is finding it.
It is very fragile, especially after its been in a fire LOL
Like your story gotwire. The most valuable thing I ever actually found where a couple of $25 signal plates in Southwest Wyoming. I would be ecstatic if I made a find like that.
I just missed out on getting one of these 2 months ago....DAMN I should have acted sooner!
