The top wire is the Kelly loop with a swingin' barb (61 B). I don't think it was very effective, but it must have had fun. It was patented in July 1885 by Michael Kelly of New York, NY, patent #322,108. There are several varieties of this wire with fewer and larger loops.
The lower wire is the Dameron washer and four point barb wire (1287 B). The washers were a type of warning plate so the wire would be visible to animals although the barbs were fairly large already. It was patented in May 1906 by John C. Dameron of Weston, IL. Patent #820,395.
This is very interesting - I am learning alot from you wire guys! I never knew there were so many fascinating variations!! Who knew!! Now thanks to you I do :-)
