My wife bought this old Cigar Box that has a Victorian Lady with vines and flowers carved in to the lid and sides. it is signed what looks to say Howatch Rariter? Copyright 1903 Charles Scribners & Sons N.Y. You can tell it was hand done and not with the greatest of skill but still makes a very nice piece. Measures 2.5 x 8.5 x 10.5"
Great piece, I am real fond of folk art and trench art.
It might be an pyrographic copy of an illustration from Scribner's magazine in 1903. I like poker-work!
I've had a look at the copies from January to June (Volume XXXIII) available online here but have not found this illustration.

Mind you there is lots to see within this magazine, the first to have coloured illustrations in a magazine format.
Thanks I'll check it out.
