This is a Peanut Butter Pail, blue with yellow lithograph and two shovels with wooden handles and red metal shovel heads. It is missing the pressed lid from what I gather. There are tree sides to the Pail. Printed on the Pail: "Butternut Brand Pure Peanut Butter/ I.X.L Spice & Coffee/ Distributed by Gorman, Eckert & Co. Limited/ London, Canada/ Packers of of Club House Brand Olives/ Net Wt. 26.025". It depicts a little girl, (holding a teddy bear) and a boy, (carrying what looks like a wooden sand pail). They are at the beach; with seagulls overhead. On the other side, is a large Rabbit flying a kite and a duck with a Parasol. In 1928, I.X.L Spice & Coffee Co, purchased Spice and Coffee mills and Peanut Butter was added to the line. We think it's kind of special.

Would anyone have any idea the date of this tin and it's value or can correct any misinformation that I have obtained?

Hi. I noticed this tin on internet and found some information that might be of interest. In 1928, Gorman & Eckert acquired the I.X.L. Spice and Coffee Mills, another London,Ontario, company. I.X.L. produced spices, coffee, jelly powders, peanut butter, salted, blanched and Spanish peanuts, roasted peanuts in shells, chocolate-covered peanuts and peanut butter. Gorman & Eckert continued to market all these products under the Butternut and Club House brands. This information has been paraphrased from a McCormick book, an American company that purchased Gorman & Eckert in 1959. As to monetary value, I believe the value of anything is intrinsic. To some it is priceless, but to others it is nothing.
