This type of Railroad lamp seems to be few and far between. Not even sure what they call the type. They are not mentioned in the CW article about RR Lamps and lanterns. I don’t know if it is because they are not a desirable Railroadiana collectable or if they are just that scarce. This one is in great long indoor stored original condition and appears to have an original industrial gray finish on the lamp structure. Looks like a small wire piece is broken off at the point where the chimney top goes thru the opening in the tin plate. Might have been a brace to hold the chimney more securely in place. No possible manufacturer info can be found on the web and very few similar examples to view. Looked through dozens of past railroad lamps and lantern item auction results and found not one .
I also have a couple of these lanterns in fairly good condition. They belonged to my grandfather who worked for the railroad. I still cannot find out much about them .
Hello I have one of these as well except mine has a coil around the top of the glass but other than that it's the same. Have you found out anymore information as I can't find anything yours is the first I've seen.
I have same as well in my collection. They are bunker car lamps. Used mostly in cabooses , and mail cars for workers to see at night. Great find.
