I purchased this clock about 15 years ago at a Barrie, Ontario antique mall. I paid $200 for it. It was not running.
Although I had paid for two, count them, two, different clock repairers to get it running, at the cost of $170 and then $70, it still doesn't work. On the back it says, "American Manufacture SIGMA" The red tag is incomplete, but part of it reads, "... E. Ingraham Company... Conn., U.S.A." The mechanism is a coiled one, and very dusty. Is it better to leave it dusty, or can I clean it with something? Are there any good repair shops in Ontario? I live in Muskoka, near Barrie, Ontario, Canada. What is it worth now?
    Thank you, Sharon

As you've already stated, this is a Ingraham black enamelled wood mantel clock called the "Sigma" from circa 1915. It should have two side ornaments. In 1999 an all original, complete, mint-condition example was appraised at $225 by Tran Duy Ly.

Here are another clock shop that you may want to check-out which is located 15 minutes from Barrie:
      Timepiece
      22 Queen Street
      Cookstown, Ontario
      L0L 1L0
      Phone: 705-458-8880
      Fax: 705-458-4831
      http://www.timepiececanada.com/

I don't have any personal experience with either shop. "Timepiece" looks like they are more geared towards antiques while "Right Time" is more oriented towards contemporary clock, watch and jewelry sales and repair.

Hi, Bruce, thank you very much for the information. I'll try the Cookstown shop. Is it odd that two other clock repair shops were unable to repair it to make it work till I got the clock home? Could that be because they didn't know what they were doing, or are these clocks that fragile? thank you, Sharon

      Hi Sharon,

      You're very welcome.

They can be fragile and you have to be careful when moving them. For example, you should always remove the pendulum weight before you move the clock.

The repair shops should have given you set-up instructions. Getting a pendulum regulated clock to run smoothly can be kind of tricky. Here is a website with some good basic information on set-up: http://www.valuableclocks.com/care.htm .

If you have any questions please let me know. Good luck with your clock. When they are running and striking properly they are so much more than just a decorative piece in the home.

      Regards
