My first and most special peice was overlooked for years. Mearly a prop that I purchased to pair with my sewing machine. Recently after going to an antiques dealer to find the story behind this unique peice I find my sewing cabinet to be overflowing with history. From its glass knobs and square nails dating it in the 1800's. It is handmade a one of a kind !! It appears to have been used for handmade rugs with its larger spool holders and row of primitavely made hooks. It is very sturdy for its age. To look at it you see what would appear to be an ordinary old box. When you study it you discover the story of someone designing this box and makes it with heart and soul rounding the plank edges to give it an almost beveled look. Instinct would tell you to refinish it, but when I look at it I see a man lovingly making this for his wife or mother and cant bear the thought of taking any of its story away.
My other peice may be one of millions but is precious to me. It is a 1920 New Home sewing machine. It is still operational with the original leather belt still in place and the last needle used waiting for another round. It has seen better days and is covered with years of dust but I see the beauty that is laying underneath waiting to be exposed and look forward to the day I can sit down and do this. This machine looks to have been used often with the slide plate so scuffed you can barely read the serial number. It is missing one of the front to the drawers but like I said I look forward to the day I can bring life back to it.
