My mom, who is 60, said this was her grandfather's nativity. Obviously it can't be ultra old as the figurines are plastic of some sort. The Nativity itself is wooden. There is a spot for the Angel. The thing I find the most interesting is the picture at the back of the Nativity. (see last photo). I know nothing about this. I don't know how old it is. I tried doing some searching, but in my search, I didn't see one like this. If anyone knows anything about it, I would love to know more!

Beautiful nativity set... I have no idea how old it is, but the stable itself looks handmade to me, not commercially made. Perhaps your great-grandfather built it himself and added the old lithograph to the back wall. It's really unique. I hope you hang on to it!

Your nativity set was made by Hartland Plastics Inc. of Wisconsin, who also made baseball, football, and western figures. This version is the unpainted set. This past weekend I saw a painted set in an antique store. The fugures were airbrushed in pastel colors, and were well done. a The stable is not original to the set. the set was made in the 1950's.

Ok, so a family member called last night and gave me more info. You're right, the Nativity itself was handmade. And my the pieces were part of an unpainted set, that could be painted. I was told that my Grandma was going to paint them, but liked them unpainted better. So, there is the story. Not sure why I was never told the story. But thank you Stepback_Antiques....for the info on the pieces!! You're awesome for having that info. It makes sense since I'm in the Chicago area that these were made in Wisconsin. Mystery Solved!! Oh and I totally plan on hanging on to this, I just wanted more information. :D

Personally, I love them better unpainted too! Glad Stepback was able to help you identify them!

Manikin, no, I live in Schaumburg, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. I work near the Wisconsin border and check out the shops whenever I can.

That is close Step-back Chicago is 2 hrs from me . We have several antique shops and malls in my town but I think they are priced to high right now . We got out of business when we saw falling prices . The thrift shops are much more fun now .
