"Semeuse" is the French word for a "sower" ( of seeds, the feminine form). It was also an image that any stamp collector will recognise as the female figure on French stamps in the first half of the twentieth century. This image, created by the French artist Oscar Roty, was later used on French francs and later on Euro coins.
Semeuse is also the name of one of the communes in the French region of the Ardenne.
You probably can't get more French than that!
