Found this gem on Ebay back when it first started in the late 1990's. Not bad for $3.00!! ( yea THREE dollars) This is a 'transition' style hat, from when they went from the bell crown shape to the standard shape visor cap. However this hat has the brown visor and chinstrap where later and WWII era visor hats for the Marines were black leather visor and chin strap.
only $3.00 you got a steal then. the brim looks kind of bad but the rest of the cover looks great yet for being one in the early 90's. it would look good in any home of any Marine, and this is another, OOOORAH !
$3... Deals like that are no longer possible on Ebay.
I have a dress blue cover and EGA from this era in unissued condition, but have not been able to find an appropriate frame.
Lovely hat- the brown brim is very rare. Thanks for sharing!
Disagree lanceg, deals like that (on ebay) are out there on a regular basis! It is just a matter of doing the WORK and finding them.

I agree Scott....It all depends on your search criteria...
The blue covers do turn up, as do the E.G.A cap badges....the early frames....not so much....you can usually find early WWII USMC frames that show up, but its finding the correct hat size that matches your cover is the tricky part...., and getting it for a good price! USMC items are HOT and tend to sell for big bucks unless you get lucky....
Good luck!
Yes, I have seen a couple, but they bid up quickly. I have found my best deals where someone has mis-listed a hat, not knowing what they have. Still, there are lots of collectors out there on EBay now and it is not easy going finding deals. Still, what fun would it be if it was easy?
I am patient- I am quite sure the right frame will come along...
Thanks for the comments- I promise to post a picture when I have all the pieces.
There are lots of buy it now bargains in ALL categories.
I bought a daguerreotype worth $7- 10k for $29.99!
