I found this in a recent tackle box purchase. This is an older fishing lure made in japan as seen in the 3rd picture stamped on the bottom of the lure. The lure appears to be either whale bone or Ivory. The lure is about 4in long without the hook. In really nice shape...if you have any knowledge of these lures please share.

seen these before, very nice too all manner of bone or antler is used and is a very old design as with most thinks jap it is a copy of a common european and north american design,i believe these are used in ice fishing or from a boat an a manner like a jig is used ie raised and lowered in the water,i have seen these decorated with scrimshaw too.

bone jigs like this were used for trolling for tuna. almost all made in japan. albacore and others. out of san diego primarily. some have weighted plates inserted in the nose, to keep the ring from ripping out, and to add weight.
