I just got this cute kewpie at the thrift store. She's huge, about 23 inches tall, strung and all bisque. She isn't marked anywhere that I can see and I can't get her clothes off to see her back. Anyone know who made her or how old she is? Thanks for looking.
Hi your cute kewpie is a reproduction of the original . She is not a Rosie O'Neill doll but is wonderful for display . Not much value on her but enjoy her ! She was nicely done :-)
Thanks for the info. She is the biggest kewpie I've ever seen and she was such a cutie that I had to have her.
She is very large :-) It make her special . Did they sew back of dress shut ? She appears to be a manufactured doll not a homemade one like in a ceramic doll making class . I suspect she was sold by some company and had a hang tag on wrist . When a doll is copied they are supposed to mark it it maybe on her back ? She is darling and I am sure you will enjoy her . If she was made in a ceramic class or my the ceramic studio they should have put at least initials on her and date and they did a super job on painting her . Precious !
Yes her dress is sewn shut. It looks like there is a "C" on the back of her neck and maybe some other letters but it so faint, it's really hard to tell.
If you take a pencil and rub the lead across the mark it will show better and then you can just wash off with a cloth and a little water :-) That will tell us what company made her . It is safe I do it on 150 yr old dolls so not to worry :-)
Great idea, I'll try it. Thanks!
I did as you suggested and the name Cameo was revealed. Thank you so much for that great tip!
That is good news she was made by a company that did Rosie O'neills dolls . She is newer one but her value just went up up ! They even did one like 27 inches tall . Awesome you have a great doll ! Mystery solved she is a Cameo Rosie O'Neill Kewpie .
